Special Education

Venus ISD provides special education services to children who have or are suspected of having a disability. Special education services are available to children with disabilities ages 3 through 21. Children who have impaired vision or hearing can receive services from birth through age 21. Services are also provided to students with disabilities attending a private school located within the boundaries of Venus ISD.

Mission & Focus

Mission Statement

The mission of the Venus ISD Special Education Department is to support and provide individualized instructional experiences for students with disabilities. We believe in sharing ownership with the student’s educational team so that growth is realized for all students.

Focus

We work with you to evaluate and identify all eligible students, offer equitable access to the curriculum, and ensure the provision of a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) in compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Specially designed instruction and related services are determined by the Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee (ARD Committee) for each student. This committee includes the students, parents, and a team of educational professionals dedicated to each student's success in the least restrictive environment (LRE).

Special Education Records

Destruction of Special Education Records

Special Education Records of students whose special education services ended during or prior to the 2019-2020 school year will be destroyed. Parents/guardians or students over the age of 18 who would like to have a copy of their records must submit a written request by June 1, 2025.

With proof of identity, the parent, guardian, or adult student may request student files between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. from the Venus ISD Special Education Office. These records may be needed for social security benefit applications or other purposes. Please contact us at (972) 366-3249.

Special Education Information Center

The Special Education Information Center (SPEDTex) provides resources and interactive features for increasing family awareness of disabilities and special education processes, with the goal of improving partnerships between schools and families.
